Teeth Whitening

What does Teeth Whitening involve?

Teeth whitening usually requires two visits but can be done in one. At the first appointment, molds are made of your teeth in order to create custom, clear plastic, trays.

At your second appointment, you will try on the trays for proper fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary. The trays are worn with a special whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening. It is normal to experience teeth sensitivity during the time you are whitening your teeth, but it will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.

You will receive care instructions for your teeth and trays, and be encouraged to visit your dentist regularly to help maintain your beautiful, healthy, white smile. Take the first step to feeling confident about your smile and contact Joburg Dentists today!

How to Maintain Your Teeth Whitening Results

There are many things you can do to prevent stains on your teeth and keep your smile as bright and white as possible:

  • Practice effective dental hygiene! This includes brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing once a day and seeing your dentist for routine dental cleanings.
  • Don't smoke
  • Be wary of foods that cause culprits, some of these are red wine, foods with tomato, energy drinks, soy sauce, tea and coffee
  • Rinse your mouth with water after eating or drinking so that the stain causing foods don't sit on your teeth.
